I am naming the BP oil spill at the gulf
Gullah Gullah
until I hear something better, or decide what has taken place in response to this tragedy is noteworthy in a good way. Come on America!!! I am pulling for you!

Here' Be Mine :(
~~~~~~~~~~~~
From here to Jamaica
No one saw her awake so
What is a poor sod to do?
When you mess with Mother Nature
Don’t be mistaken
Mother Nature will mess with you!
I don’t know about you
Or what BP will do
But she just took a giant poo poo!
Kinda runny!
Right on you!
So if you think my poem is in bad taste, or simply bad (I do); you may want to ponder on the fact that if things like this go unsettled no one will have ANY reason AT ALL to do anything beautiful again. I wonder what the damage below the earth is? hmmm?
Maybe they'll call it Sigsbe Deep?
~~~~~~
The Gullah are African Americans who live in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina and Georgia, which includes both the coastal plain and the Sea Islands. Historically, the Gullah region once extended north to the Cape Fear area on the coast of North Carolina and south to the vicinity of Jacksonville on the coast of Florida; but today the Gullah area is confined to the South Carolina and Georgia Lowcountry. The Gullah people and their language are also called Geechee, which some scholars speculate to be related to the Ogeechee River near Savannah, Georgia. The term Geechee is an emic term used by speakers and "Gullah" is a term that was generally used by outsiders but that has become a way for speakers to formally identify themselves and their language.
~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday, the estimated size of the spill quintupled to over 210,000 gallons a day. In BP's exploration plan, which allowed it to avoid filing a more detailed site-specific plan, the company outlined a worst-case scenario of 162,000 gallons a day.
~~~~~~~~~~
Kinda tough to hide that kind of number. DANG~~~ AMERICA'S BUTTOM'S been Drained. Sorry if I sound RUDE, but I really really really believe that our industries and technologies need to be RESPONSIBLE. How can we be sustainable without them? At least a little honesty... So we can have our liberty...pursuit of happy??? BACK~~~ ???

Congressman Henry Waxman has slipped an amendment into the Wall Street financial reform bill that would expand FTC powers that could destroy the dietary supplements industry.

I have not seen the Gulf Coast. I would love to go down and help on the clean up, but since I cannot, this is my request for action;

Well, I am posting this all over the place, but I figure, where's the harm?

Gulf Coast oil spill could eclipse Exxon Valdez.
VENICE, La. — An oil spill that threatened to eclipse even the Exxon Valdez disaster spread out of control and drifted inexorably toward the Gulf Coast on Thursday as fishermen rushed to scoop up shrimp and crews spread floating barriers around marshes.The spill was both ...bigger and closer than imagined — five times larger than first estimated, with the leading edge just three miles from the Louisiana shore. Authorities said it could reach the Mississippi River delta by Thursday night.

Some Wise Quotes

"It is not necessary to deny another's reality in order to affirm your own.”

“Since the Addictive System defines itself as reality, everything else is unreal by definition. Since its referent is the external referent, the internal referent is unreal and nonexistent by definition. The process of invalidating that which the system does not know, understand, cannot measure, and cannot thereby control is so extreme that large areas of perception and knowledge are lost. We give the system the power to make the known unknown.”

"We must move in our recovery from one addiction to another for two major reasons: first, we have not recognized and treated the underlying addictive process, and second, we have not accurately isolated and focused upon the specific addictions.”

“Good health is not something we can buy. However, it can be an extremely valuable savings account.”

Living in Process

The purpose of Living in Process® retreats is to learn about a way of life that focuses on healing and offers a path for spiritual growth. We have an opportunity to live in process and in community while learning to confront our addictive processes and behaviors. Our focus is on holistic healing.

Anyone involved in their own life journey who wants to participate in a supportive learning and healing environment is welcome. Recovering addicts, their friends and families, survivors of incest and abuse, healthcare professionals, ministers, addiction counselors, and other individuals involved in personal growth may find Intensive Workshops helpful in their choice and ability to feel and to live more fully and joyfully.

Participants often comment on the respectful, non-controlling, non-judgmental environment they experience and the network of support they have developed from participating in Intensives. Healing and transformation are possible!

Living in Process® work is not therapy, nor is it based on the scientific model out of which therapy comes. It is a way of living that is based on holistic science, rather than the limited technological model of western culture. Connected with traditions of native cultures, it is community-based, participatory, safe, respectful, and spiritually-grounded.

Facilitators have worked active 12-Step recovery programs and have participated in Living in Process work with Anne Wilson Schaef for a number of years. Additional support is provided by individuals participating in Living Process work and their own recovery programs.
Registration for Intensive Workshops and other information is available by contacting the primary facilitator listed below. Costs vary depending on the location and facilities and the length of the Intensive.

Late Night Sayings I just read from my friend Angela

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.- Woodrow Wilson

Musical Monday: Imagine by John Lennon

No Judgment;

Still working on techincal issues;
:)
Allison

Here's my choice for this Monday;
Golden is as Golden does;

Imagine by John Lennon

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Foraging for Wild Ramps and Incredible Flavor

David Becker.Author, consultant, online marketer

Wild ramps are a delicate-looking plant that add some serious flavor to salads, pasta, lamb and more. They have a strong garlic flavor, and can be consumed from tip to tip.

With their small white bulb, ramps resemble green onions but the leaves are something else altogether -- long, oval, and almost silky, with pointed ends. The little pistil or stem is either red or purple. All in all, one sexy plant. (Forgive me if I wax rhapsodic, but I'm a big, big fan.)

One of the last truly seasonal foods available in North America, wild ramps go by many names including wild leek, ramson, and ail de bois.

Found in forests from South Carolina to Canada, and as far west as Missouri and Minnesota, wild ramps are the first patch of edible green to appear after the snows retreat -- and were treasured by settler families desperate for any fresh food come winter's end. Ramps represent a healthy dose of vitamins, a tonic for the blood, and some much needed flavor after a winter subsisting on root vegetables. At Friend of the Farmer, we find them at farms in the Berkshire and Litchfield County hills.

If You Can Stand the Excitement . . .

Do a quick search and you will find ramp festivals throughout West Virginia this month. The "Feast of the Ramson" is trumpeted with promotional language that verges on the breathless:

"The excitement is in the air... Just enjoying the West Virginia ramps in the springtime, for me, is what it is all about. Ramps which to this day thrive in the Appalachian Mountains and valleys... There's nothing quite like Appalachian Ramps."

According to Ideas in Food, wild ramps are often served at homes in the South fried up with potatoes or scrambled with eggs. In restaurants around the country "they may be pickled and served with fried oysters or soft shell crabs, blanched and sautéed in risottos and pastas, or simply seared and tucked up beside roasted morels and grilled lamb chops."

If you're lucky enough to find them in a forest near you, their pungent flavor is yours for free. Otherwise you can expect to pay $7 to $20 per pound. Not that you need that much to impress your friends with your foraging expertise. In fact, as with eating a few buds of garlic, you might turn some heads of your own. One Charleston, West Virginia, reporter told of kids being sent home from school after having had ramps for dinner the night before.

Grab a handful while you can. Otherwise -- unless your pickling skills are up to snuff -- you'll have to wait another year to take a ride on the wild ramp side.

By Buzzy Buzz Blogging
{Ticking the title redirects you to their site}
Boston Marathon 2010 Results – In case you missed the Boston Marathon 2010 yesterday, we have the top 10 race results for both the men and the women.

The Boston Marathon that took place yesterday was the 114th Boston Marathon. If you’re from Boston, like I am, then you would know that this day is treated like a holiday. Unfortunately, I was working so I didn’t get to enjoy it like most people. Though, I know someone who actually participated in the race and he finished with a pretty good time. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the top 10 spots.

Also, this is the first time that I found out how much money you could winning by finishing in the top 10. It breaks down similar to finishing in the final table in a poker tournament!

Below are the Boston Marathon race results (name, country, time and winnings) for both the men and women:

Women’s Race Results

1. Teyba Erkesso (ETH) 2:26:11 $150,000
2. Tatyana Pushkareva (RUS) 2:26:14 $75,000

And the Seattle Post Says;;;
BOSTON -- The up-and-down course of the Boston Marathon ended just in time for Ethiopia's Teyba Erkesso.

She held off a charge from Russian Tatyana Pushkareva on Monday to win the women's race in 2 hours, 26 minutes, 11 seconds. Erkesso beat Pushkareva by three seconds in the third-closest women's finish in race history.

Erkesso grabbed the lead after 12 miles, when Pushkareva wasn't even among the top 10 women. But by mile 21, Pushkareva had narrowed the gap to about a minute. With six-tenths of a mile to go, Pushkareva was just 15 seconds behind, but she ran out of room.

Pushkareva said the late surge was part of her strategy and she had no doubt she made her move at the right time.

"In today's race, I did everything that I could," she said through a translator. "I would not change anything."

Last year's champion, Salina Kosgei of Kenya, finished third in 2 hours, 28

Musical Monday 1st; What a Wonderful World

What A Wonderful World (our life)
Our Song~~~~
I am dedicating this song to my husband, you are my wonderful world!
I love you! & that is a 20:10 my dear!
Thank you for all of the Green Trees & Skies of Blue!
Written by Robert Theile & George David Weiss
Sang by Loius Armstong and the later version mix by
Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole 'IZ'

Lyrics;

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Spring Shows Us What God Can Do With A Drap & Dirty World

Dark, dank, dirty prank
Winter's slick decay had made.
God has blessed incredible ways of
Showing up all that you do, or did to day.
He first decides to shoot up little thin green fronds of grass
Through the ground
Next thing you know, there's a little
Show of dancing daffodils in the pas-
ture
What a flair God does share~~~

Big old Bumble Bees, never seen them bigger!
In full force you see,
Dodge around the corner!
Lots of vigor,
Up and Down,
In circle,
Round and round, by
My back porch,
Nothing seems to guide them!
Old Charlie's spirit close beside them@
All springing up and out from the ground.
With a big bouncing bound,
To the air around
They do go!
Bumble Bee Dance & Sing of Spring!
Bumble Bee Show you everything!
Their Abundance is quite large this year.

Eat The Weed DOT com YouTube episode on Smilax! The original root used in Sasperilla and Root Beer.

Very interesting video. I don't know that Smilax grows in this region. I couldn't find it in our Plants of the Pacifc Northwest which is a bummer because it looked interesting and kind of yummy!
I am going to look this up and wrtie to Green Dean. He is a great fellow who loves to talk about wildlife plants aka weeds. If I remember right, he is from the East Coast. So you eastcoast folks should give it a try. There is also a receipe for rootbeer using the Smilax root.

©Allisonians

From Green Deane's Website
"...There used to be a field in Sanford, Florida, near Lake Monroe, that was nearly overrun with growing Smilax every spring. I could get a couple of quarts of tender tips easily over a few weeks, enough for many side dishes. Cooked like asparagus or green beans, they are excellent, and also edible raw in small quantities..."
"Oh, about that field in Sanford: A century ago it was a truck farm producing celery and other vegetables. Then it fell fallow growing smilax. Now it’s an apartment complex."

There is a look alike that Deane warns about on his video and in the text. Tick the title to redirect to the video.

Green Deane’s “Itemized” Plant Profile
A climbing shrub with tuberous roots, knobby white roots tinged with pink, bamboo like stems, more or less thorny, leaves varying with species and on the bush, tiny flowers, five slim petals, fruit round, green turning to black, one small brown seed. Some species have red fruit, edibility of red fruit unreported.

Starts putting on shoots in February in Florida, later in the season as one moves north. Seeds germinate best after a freeze.

It grows best in moist woodlands, but can tolerate a lot of dry and is often seen climbing trees. Left on its own with nothing to climb it sometimes creates and brambly shrub. Thicket provides protection for birds.

Beside making sarsaparilla, the roots can be used in soups or stews, young shoots eaten cooked or in small quantities raw, berries can be eaten both raw and cooked, usually are chewed like gum (avoid the large seed.) Pounds of roots to pounds of flour is a 10 to one ratio.

More from Green Deane
Mythologically speaking;
Name Smilax comes from Greek Mythology with several variations.
Smilax was a beautiful young nymph who fell in love with a mortally young Spartan named Crocus . Crocus fell in love with Hermes. Hermes turned him into a flower named Crocus where we also get saffron. Smilax was heart broken because her love was now a blooming idiot. Aphrodite took pity on her and turned her into a vine so that Smilax could always be with her Crocus.

In the Ojibwe culture, the sun is seen as the source of renewal, of warmth and light. The two themes of the sun and Naniboujou are intertwined in a huge mural-like painting by Red Cliff artist Rabbit Strickland entitled, "To Move The Sun." Strickland is a nationally known Native American artist, whose works have been displayed at the Tweed Museum of Art in Duluth and are sold out of the prestigious Manitou Galleries in Santa Fe, N.M.

"Look at the life-force on this planet. Can't you see there's incredible, creative Intelligence all around you?"
She paused for a moment and then said, "There exists a Source of all intelligence, all love, and it's infinitely creative. Think of the sun as the source and the rays as the expression; you can't separate the sun from the rays. So everything you see, feel and experience around you is the expression of the Source, including yourselves. You can't separate the thought from the thinker."

Be it metaphysical or biblical, there is no question like, "where does this energy come from?" It has been a contention with me that it is so competitive and has kept me from three things. I will not say here what they are because it is not for me to say.

In Memory of Dixie Carter

I don't usually comment on actors,
But I have to say that my Father must be a happy camper!
Along with a half a million others up there in heaven
Now that they are welcoming Dixie there today or so,
She's been a favorite among the men and women elders that I know.
Her southern charm, lady like nature and soul went a long way,
And I am sorry to see her go, but happy for those that will greet her in heaven!
Rest and in loving memory of a kind stranger, really, one
with feminine character that I aspired to. She was kindred to many that way.

The night they called ol Dixie down
And the people were singing
La-la la, la, la, la-la-la-la, la, la-la la,, la!

I am a goof!!! my 'wrong' 1st Flash 55 was 155! DAng. It really was tooooo bad! Here's My 55 of the correct week, or whatever.

Tick the title for more and to join the fun!

Flash 55 is hosted by G-Man (Mr. Knowitall). Tick the title for more information. Just write a story in exactly 55 words. Using the photo for a prompt. If you want to take part pop over and let G-Man know when you’ve posted your 55. Thanks G-Man for hosting.

Here' mine! I call it Connection

Back There, My life seemed to steer itself.
Many things were illusive so I didn’t believe in myself.
Rejection connection was what I believed
Reason I say so is the Hotel CA reflection
Proof stopped by with its judge in the corner
My psyche was twisted like bourbon Dejeuner
Souvenir, my bright blonde hair

(reunion is hearing that song again! I like it with reflection better, cause that's what I was doin'! TQ John)(was Hotel CA reunion)

Maniac Warning! Here I go again! Sorry Folks, but I get these little prompts from the powers that be from earth.care2.com. I don't always get to them,

I don't always care. I do always want to help where I can, and be as informed as I can, but I have a theory about that too. Should I go on? No? Well then, I'll just say that it is EASY to say what you stand for. It is not easy to keep up with the rig-a-ma-row though. For one thing, I am not privy to a bunch of the big industry issues, simply because I am not a Big industry, nor do I pretend to be close to it. I, personally don't want to be close to it. I live in a really industrialized area and it is a huge mess! They don't even try to 'fluph' anymore, which is okay by me. Kind of 'third world' lookin' in some spots, but call it how you see it? ya know?
So, my little letter is posted here. I probably sound looney, or immature, or ignorant, but that's how it is. My daughter said that it's better that way, and now-a-days I feel a bit concerned about their generations plights, but try to be that 'live for today' to the best we can kinda momma. anywho!!!

# 36,525:
I know we all drive cars to work and for the family, but how can we curb our own driving habits and keep our bills paid? I don't know exactly how to change these problems, but I do know that we need careful consideration where oil drilling is concerned. If we can get to a TRUE safer energy supply, that would be the best a company, government, and society could do! If we are going to keep with the oil, then we need a lot more security for our planet and all of its inhabitants! Agreed?
Some careful considerations for the people and wildlife around these drilling sights, and a whole lot of research and discloser are just the tip of the iceberg I'd like to see.
Thank you for your time sir!
Namesta,
Allisonian

So this gets mailed to our President Barack Obama along with some of what earth care wants to have said, K (?) I want to edit them sometimes and that is why I 'sometimes' don't want to write, Or I am simply not on the same page as them, but I like people who are still working on making things better, and maybe even someday, sustainable. GO TEAM Earth Care! Who among you will be number 36,526? Or let me know how you really feel, as one of my esteemed colleagues would say.

Revenge of the Pixels

By Ransom Riggs
@ Mental Floss

This brilliant, fun music video from France does several difficult things at the same time:
1) it perfectly captures my nostalgia for old video games
2) it makes you feel sorry for obsolete technology, and
3) it posits an end-of-world scenario few of us have ever considered: what would happen if the big, blocky pixels of the past came back and took their revenge? Watch and learn.

THNX Ransom!

Waking up grateful! Lof--Thanks LS

What if tonight when you go to sleep, you think of the gift of tomorrow as just that- a great big present that is just waiting for you to unwrap it. Close your eyes and picture a perfectly wrapped present, complete with a beautiful bow. Now picture yourself unwrapping it with joy and see what you want to appear inside this package as you unwrap this gift. Imagine your day unfolding in the perfect way and focus on what’s right in your world. Be grateful.
Chances are, if you fall asleep with a prayer of gratitude on your lips, you’ll wake with a song of joy in your heart. Just changing that simple thought can change your day, and can change your life.

John Lindow says that scholars have generally followed Snorri's etymological connection with the the root lof-, meaning "praise." Lindow says that, along with many other goddess, some scholars theorize that Lofn may simply be another name for the goddess Frigg. Rudolf Simek theorizes that Snorri used skaldic kennings to produce his Gylfaginning commentary about the goddess, while combining several etymologies with the Old Norse personal name Lofn.

PUTTING THE LIGHT BACK INTO ENLIGHTENMENT

ACTION PLAN...

Free yourself from judgment. Each judgment you have is a complaint with the Divine Mystery.

Let go of your attachment to being right. This doesn't mean you can't be right, only that you can't keep score.

Let go of your attachment to being wrong. Scrutinizing your actions to identify your "mistakes" is a justification for self-judgment. The opposite of being wrong and the opposite of being right is the same-just being.

Stop trying to fix yourself. You are not broken, you don't need repairing, and you don't need to try harder. All you need to do is accept yourself as you are.

Get over thinking your belief system is the cornerstone of reality. It isn't. Everything you think is real is based on an illusion. Laugh, its pretty funny if you think about it.

Detach yourself from your need to know. The problem with knowledge is it doesn't do anything. How much more knowledge do you need to embrace the truth of your magnificence. Your choices will distinguish you, not your knowledge. (Note: There is no exception for bad hair days.)

Stop justifying your actions. To move out of the duality of right/wrong thinking, you must be willing to stop defending your point of view.

Quit blaming anyone, including yourself, for the way you are experiencing the world. There are no victims, only volunteers. Assume responsibility for your experience of life, regardless of where you acquired your point of view.

Release the idea that any one human is better or worse than another. If ...

April 1st
Beginnings

From Day to Night &

Where it all started

New baby leaves
Springing
From their earthly beds
Will be dancing in Sunshine
Once Sun warms their little heads.

Feeling Free

The breeze
Does Remind me
Of winter’s long sleep.
Blow away coldness
Darnkess and sleep.
Freeing the spirits
To new early flight.
Not to my darkness
In solid delight.

A Lover’s Triangle

3 is the magic number
Yes it is.
A man and a woman
One of them in trouble,
Yes indeed! one two three;
The man loved the lady
He brought a lot of favors,
Yes he did!
It's a magic something~~~
Man ~ woman ~ wife,
Husband in a plight,
Woman loves another,
Maybe.
Please don’t take my wife.
It’s a magic number.
(piano bridge please~~~)

What will they do?

Well now they might~~~

Man and the woman
Planted up a garden,
Yes they did!
It was magic numbers!
They planted all the flowers
And even little vegies.
until they had
Had that magic number!
3, 6, 9,
12, 15, 18.
21, 24, 27, 30
new things!
They multiplied
It's the magic
'Numbers'
Nature plus people
They're the magic
'number'.

Spring Chicken

No spring chicken for me,
No Siree,
No spring chicken for me!
No way!
Cause I don’t got no mo' money, honey,
And the old fall chicken's fine,
Frozen is just fine, oh honey!
I’ll thaw out that old chicken to dine!
And It’ll taste just fine, now honey,
It's gonna be just fine!
There’s more than one kind of old cold chickens
I'll learn the new form of math and
We will all be just fine, yes siree, we will be just fine!

Spring Rain, Fall Gold

Now makes me feel old
If I work hard I feel the best
I go to sleep early and get my rest.
I have to do it every day
Or I won't, ya know, but hey!
I got over it and so will you
Spring brings the rain
If we don't get more sunshine
Autumn will be disdained!

Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!" ~ Robin Williams

Nature shows us how to party
Wait, wait, wait.
Wait some more
Hide, hide, hide like Mork from Ork
Sleep, rest, warm
Can do no harm!
Just a little warmer now and some light!

In a minute you’ll have grown so big!
If you don’t move around
It’ll be a big sin!
Since we all have to do it,
Let us do it together.
Partying’s good in all sorts of weather.
We’re just happy to rhyme and measure!

If we be blown, we’ll dance up the waltz.
It we get cold, we’ll prance to the fox trot.
Finally the sun will grow us up! Way UP!
Next we can dance with the birds and such!
Do the Cha Cha, if you please!

No matter what anybody tells you, words & ideas can change the world.

One Flower Does Not Bring Spring

“Abigail, Abigail, where do you go?”
“Up the high hillside to follow that doe.”
“Abigail, Abigail, there’s no deer to see.”
“Oh no? Well she led me right under that tree!
And find there, I may see, the single white star!
I wish to see if the spring is close or far!”
“Abigail, Abigail, don’t go tonight!
And don’t ever pick it, it won’t grow back right!
It also will curse you and stunt your young life,
Seven long years til it’s back with your strife!”
“Oh sir I will not! I just need to see!
If one little flower will want to pick me?
I am the fountain of joy, don’t you see!”
“Yes you are my dear sweet spring spree!”

"Tales on Tuesdays"
The idea is to tell a short, short (500 words or less) story based on the week’s theme. To provide us inspiration, each theme will be the title of a TV show. This week’s theme is from the, “Golden Girls” sitcom which was popular from 1985 to 1992. If you wish to play along, please visit Nessa for the list of upcoming themes (ticking the title redirects you there), and remember, your story does not have to relate to the series.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's My 'Golden Girls Story'
Every summer our family headed down to the Seaside.
I wondered who I’d meet this summer.
I had one ‘best’ friend I knew who lived there through the winter,
Billy.
His house was one of the regular ‘chicken coop’ styles,
but it was placed correctly on their lot, nice advantage.
A big percentage of the brightly colored houses were
merely summer rentals anymore.
"Marketed in the 20’s with $5 rides from the city by train
that included the family cow."
[Peninsula Primer]
Coming back to the ocean each summer was like coming home.
Billy & I were kindred spirits,
Bros of the summer.
We had our routes both professionally (paper routes) and individually. We knew where the action was and we’d take it. We knew every inch of the peninsula. Our only responsibilities were that his father fished and Billy held down the fort at home, and I had to stay
out of the way of my father’s drawings and my big bros' wrath.
Upon arrival I quickly helped unpack, waiting for my bike on the top of the car.
As soon as it was free, I jumped on and rode down to Billy’s to see if he were home and show him my new stingray,
he’d also got his for his birthday by now!
As I rode like the wind, I heard a car approaching from behind as the environment changed. The air sort of sucked out as if this vehicle was passing fast, but it wasn’t. It was slowly, but dominantly passing. The Rambler Station wagon was decent. What caught my eye were the sounds of the shrill singing laughter and the carefree summer arrival song.
As they passed, time slowed down, and the earth shifted very slightly. It was like being at the end of the port when the steamboat pulled away, caught you solid!
Singing, Blonde hair a-flyin’,
“Izzy Belle,
Kissed a Fella,
Made him blush
And turn to jellEeee!”
And as they passed I saw her and who they were. I didn’t know then,
but soon would know these were the ‘Golden Girls’…
Then just as they passed, the next of their songs were sung/laughed out at me,
just for me this time!
The rest of the summer would be theirs,
but this was for me;
“Izzybelle, Hazel and Hillary are,
Dancing & singing a sea song!
We’ll see you all summer,
We’ll tease you to butter, And,
We’ll steel your big heart for a song!”
As they drove away, I just about ran into Billy. He’d been my best friend and now it seemed like we’d not spoken for years. I ran into the fence half watching them drive on. Then the air, that familiar sea smell had just changed to a noticeable enchantment. Billy ran up and looked passed to see what had taken my attention and he too was transfix, but having a fisherman for a father, he hesitated before the siren took him away too.
What a summer it would be!
The Intuitive Life: Open Doors and Venture Forth By Margaret Ruth Huffington Post (Tick the Title to be redirected there)
I love doorways and entryways. Every time I enter a home, garden, store or the like; I think for a brief moment~hm~ this isn't it, but it is...
The Post Offices always have that smell of acrid movement; and that room before, that entrance hall. Prepares you, no?
The church has some kind of hallway or entrance way. Those do vary from exceptional to drab in my experience, but all have that~hm~ what is this for sense...
The stores have varying entrance ways, as do the malls, hospitals and schools. Gyms, wellness centers, and different kinds of buildings have that area to stop, put your keys in your pocket and close your umbrella place, usually.
Symbolically I love doorways; thresholds, entranceways of all kinds. This is why this article by Margaret stopped me to take a quick look and then prompted me to 'cut and paste' it to my entranceway. My doorway that leads to my little place here where I open doors, and look in, and venture forth a spell and then back again, I think. Sometimes roam the new environment, sometimes just leave the door open to see, smell and hear what comes forth.
I also like how literature uses doorways. C. S. Lewis has the wardrobe, but also has the rings, ponds and such. Madeline L'Engle uses portals that seem like a doorway and there is always someone at the door. Then there is Alice, down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass. In her attempts to enter various doorways she has to be first altered to do so. That is so brilliant since the doorway is such a symbol, isn't it?
And what of that rabbit hole? Is it like being born, or born 'again', a new realization maybe? I don't know, but I do think there is some room for speculation, always.
©Allisonians
~~~~~~~~~~
Doorways as a symbol carry quite a bit of meaning. They are a promise, a beckoning, an invitation. Just as opening a physical door leads us across a threshold and into a new space, opening metaphysical doors of the psyche and of our deepest desires allow us to take on new adventures and experiences. The problem, though, of doorways seems to be that many wonder whether they are choosing the right door; they worry about those not chosen or what will be left behind if they venture on through.
You can use your intuition and imagination to explore the doorways facing you right now. By doing this, you can heighten your awareness of your possibilities and of the fears that might be holding you back.
Here's one idea of how to do this: Start by setting up a quiet time and space and focusing within. Visualize a blank screen in your mind's eye and allow images of doors to present themselves. You might get just one; you might see many. Now play with them. You can open them all at once or one at a time. You can check to see what vista presents itself in the opening. You could literally get objects, times, dates or people, or you could get more dream-like symbols or landscapes.
As you do this, let your intuition educate you on these possibilities. Watch how you feel when you cross through the door opening. For instance, if there is a new job or career on the other side, are you happy? Are you afraid? Do you resist exploring what is there?
If you do not know which door to choose, or are resistant to taking a new path, then you can imagine leaving them all open for a while. Holding this type of image in your consciousness instructs the psyche to stay available for possibilities. Or, you can imagine that you can go through all these openings without losing anything. You can remind yourself that even if you explore one doorway, you can always leave and try another. You can remember that you don't have to miss anything by crossing the threshold and adding a new adventure.

Ninety percent of the dogs in this country eat and live better than 75 percent of the people in this world.

Economics; He goes on to say that 23% of our dogs eat better than our children. They probably have better healthcare too. Oh, I know I shouldn't talk like that, isn't civil. I just see it so close to home now. We are a civilzed people, no? Well we are also a people in need of some help, or as the politicians like to call it, 'reform'.

Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, Won't You Please Shine Down On Me. Another Interesting Natural News Article from Mike!

I know it sounds so opposite from everything the media and such has warned the public about, but I live in the PNW where the sun is not always available. I have always loved a bright morning, but also know that rain is essential. I find it so curious that the sun is what we’re being warned about. I live in an industrial area, and know that we are not as warned about the spills and 'shut down' clean ups and their dangers. Why not just blame the sun, not our people's bread and butter? Somehow we continue on, for the most part, unscathed. Those poor souls that get ill have no alternative than to listen to their doctor's. I pray they find true help with them. That they are 'CARED' for. I don't mean to confuse or disrespect anyone who has had problems there in. I only wonder about the mixed media genres.

We live down river (far down) from Hanford nuclear Camp.
It’s funny how Hanford has spent 54 billion dollars to come up with a stable glass to store the radiation in and as of 2006, hadn’t made one ounce, but had spent all that money. I am not a research scientist, but I know that amount of money is extreme, as is our nuclear problems at Hanford. It's really funny, but not the tee hee kind.
So, I've listened and listened to those who worked there at Hanford and to those who work at the near by factories and the old nuclear plant about what to do when there is chemical danger. The last 'spill' I heard about, was a mile long 'pet'coke spill on the Columbia River that the ‘powers that be’ were not going to clean up. Well that one was a bit blatant, but what about the ones we don't hear about? Obviously they don't kill off our race as fast as I might have thought, but what about Chernobyl? That one was horrific. Anyway, I don't blame the sun, but I wonder about the mixture of sun and chemicals in our atmosphere. Maybe that is the warning to be awarded our interest.
No matter what, I am going to enjoy our natural gifts.
No matter what, I am going to be exposed to things beyond my control.
If I allow this to keep me from enjoying what I enjoy, that is the greater danger for me.
SO, here is what Mike Adams from Natural News has to say about it. Thanks Mike! Tick the title to be redirected to the PDF interview.

The Healing Power of Sunlight

Did you know you have probably never been told the straight truth
about one of the most potent, yet overlooked, healing nutrients in the
world? In fact, medical groups have actually spent the past three
decades convincing you to avoid this "nutrient" by scaring you into
thinking it causes cancer.

But the truth is far different. Strong clinical evidence proves this
"nutrient" actually prevents and helps REVERSE an astounding number of
serious diseases (and I'll tell you all about it right here),
including:

* Prostate cancer
* Breast cancer
* Osteoporosis
* Depression
* Gum disease
* Schizophrenia
* Diabetes

Curious what this "nutrient" really is? Let me give you some hints:
It moves at the speed of light. You can feel it (it feels warm), but
you can't touch it. Without it, there would be no life whatsoever on
planet Earth. And it can't be patented or sold for profit.

What is it? Sunlight.

I'm talking about natural, healthy sunshine, which enables your body
to make its own lifesaving vitamin D. Today, I want to share with you
the secrets of its health benefits in a fascinating special report
called, "The Healing Power of Sunshine and Vitamin D." It's available
for downloading right now at:

http://www.naturalnews.com/SpecialReports/Sunlight.pdf
(Adobe Acrobat format)
(cut and paste, or tick the title for this report)

This special report contains information you probably won't hear from
your doctor or dermatologist, because it goes against everything they
believe about sunlight. But recent research is proving that not
getting enough sunlight is extremely dangerous to your health because
it causes vitamin D deficiencies that promote chronic disease.

Seeking out sunlight in safe, reasonable doses, on the other hand,
does wonders for your health and may, in fact, render all sorts of
conventional medical therapies irrelevant. Again, you can get the full
story in this fascinating special report right now:
http://www.naturalnews.com/SpecialReports/Sunlight.pdf
(Adobe Acrobat format) (cut and paste, or tick the title for this report)

This special report features an interview with Dr. Michael Holick,
one of the world's leading experts on vitamin D and sunlight. In "The
Healing Power of Sunlight," he discusses his fascinating research.
You'll learn things like:

* How vitamin D deficiencies have been directly linked to several
types of cancer.

* In a study of African-American, Latino, and Caucasian women who had
just given birth, 76% were deficient in vitamin D and 81% of the
infants were deficient.

* A study in Finland showed that infants who were deficient in
vitamin D had an 80% increased risk of developing Type-2 diabetes as
an adult.

* 32% of students and doctors in Boston are deficient in vitamin D by
the end of winter.

* 40% to 60% of elderly people are at risk for vitamin D deficiency.

In "The Healing Power of Sunshine and Vitamin D," Dr. Holick also
explains little-known facts about sunshine and vitamin D. In this
special report, you'll learn:

* How proper nutrition helps you avoid sunburn without using chemical
sunscreens

* What the right amount of sunlight is for your body

Organic Cheater Brands Caught by OCA

Fr. Natural News
The Organic Consumers Association has long fought against what it calls "organic cheater brands" -- personal care products that use the name "organic" in the product name or brand, yet are not truly organic products at all. This year at the Expo West Natural Products Expo in Anaheim, California, the OCA staged a very visible public protest to expose what it calls "sham poo products" that are "organic cheaters."

The protest was part of the OCA's Coming Clean Campaign which continues to expose dishonest or misleading products in the skin care industry. Due in large part to the OCA's efforts, Whole Foods now says it will enforce honest labeling by taking a closer look at the word "organic" on personal care products (http://www.organicconsumers.org/bod...).

I was present at the protest, where I spoke with some of the participants and captured some video footage of the action. You can watch the full video right now on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BaO...

What really happened at the protest
The protest was largely peaceful, and even though police did search the protestors -- a violation of their 4th Amendment rights -- they did not make any arrests. New Hope Media, the company that organizes the Expo West trade show each year, dispatched staffers to act as human shields to visually block the protest signs by standing in front of them. I attempted to get some of the New Hope Media personnel to explain why they were standing in front of the signs, asking them if they were attempting to block the signs, and they told me that they actually had no intention of blocking anything, that they were just "standing here" for no particular reason. (Yeah, right...)

They couldn't say, of course, that the "organic cheater" brands whose signs they were blocking also happened to be some of the largest paying exhibitors at the show, and these show organizers were no doubt attempting to shield these companies from being publicly shamed. That act alone raises the all-important question: Why is New Hope Media protecting organic cheater brands?

There's something you need to know about the Expo West trade show: That show has an on-duty FDA officer who runs around the show threatening companies that make truthful health claims on their product labels. New Hope Media is apparently quite content with an FDA tyrant running around the show threatening people for telling the truth, but when the Organic Consumers Association tries to expose the truth about organic cheater brands, New Hope Media places itself in the position of defending the cheaters!

Why is it illegal to tell the truth at Expo West, but it's perfectly fine for some companies to lie to consumers through misleading product names... and New Hope Media will actually go to bat for those cheaters by sending people onto the street to disrupt a public protest that exposes the lies!

I find this all quite fascinating. Expo West is a terrific trade show with lots of really great companies sharing their health products, but it does seem that New Hope Media is eroding its own credibility by going to bat for organic cheater brands. Instead of defending organic cheater brands, the company might do itself a favor by requiring them to have honest labels before they can exhibit at the show!

How the products really scored
The OCA has published an online spreadsheet detailing the test results of many personal care products to show their "Skin Deep Hazard Rating" -- a score that indicates the presence of potentially hazardous or toxic chemicals in product formulations. A score of 7 or higher is considered bad enough to earn that product a "don't buy this" rating. A score of 2 or lower is considered very good.

The OCA maintains a boycott against the following brands, which it characterizes as "fake organic brands":

• Avalon "Organics"
• Desert Essence "Organics"
• Earth's Best "Organic"
• Eminence "Organic" (Except Few w/USDA Seal)
• Giovanni "Organic"
• Goodstuff "Organics"
• Head "Organics"
• Jason "Pure, Natural & Organic"
• Kiss My Face "Obsessively Organic"
• Nature's Gate "Organics"
• Physicians Formula "Organic" Wear
• Stella McCartney "100% Organic"

NaturalNews urges readers to join in this boycott and avoid buying these brands until they reformulate to be truly organic (USDA organic). Note carefully that even the Kiss My Face "Obsessively Organic" products are not considered truly organic by the OCA. Don't trust product names alone, as brand names and product names may be misleading.

To All of Those That We Love~~~

Speaking softly wasn't always my strongest suit,
But today I was moved to learn an aged old virtue.
As a child I was shy, but I don't think anyone knew that or maybe…
I tried too hard, I drank too much, I talked over people.
I wanted to get over it, and thought that was the way.
I made big mistakes and made sure everyone knew it.
Then I was ashamed. I wanted to live down those mistakes.
I was reclusive, I was lost, I was torn.
I yelled, I threw fits; I searched for the ‘answer’ that
No one could tell me.

Time took care of it after all.
I want to cry out like the proverbial 'Town Crier',
But this is neither the time nor the place.
My solace today is quietness and peace.
In that quiet I found myself.
My self that is small and awake.
That self that doesn't have words at all sometimes,
And sometimes has just a couple, at others it is dictionary.

Quietness,
It softened me; which is, I suppose, the point.
I know that when I heard of a friend taking
A hiatus from speech, I longed for it.
I also know that, when I am quiet, I feel freedom.
When I am quiet, I am more open.
I think I fear my emotions being seen there,
But I did it anyway, and I felt them.

I will go to the mountain, next time I need to ‘cry’, shout, or howl!
I will go to the sea at the storm time when I am so moved.
I will sit quietly with nature and be revealed for this time.
I will sit quietly with nature and ‘see’.
Thank you for those lessons.
I know that love lost is not wasted.
I know it is better to have loved and lost,
Than not to have loved at all.

I am overwhelmed with our family today
That faced their loss and move boldly forth.
They did what they needed to do for them.
I am proud to call them family.
I am humbled to have been in their presence this day.
I am forever moved, and will live the rest of my life
With the memory of their heroic stance at that darkness,
And at their light.
Thank you for our family.

Banana This; Recycle Old Peels~ fertilizer or silver polish

There are things you can do with that old peel.

1. Do you have a green thumb? House hold plants and outside gardens require fertilization. A great way to give your plants nutrients is with a banana peel. The banana peel is very rich in potassium and phosphorus, which give that added boost to your plants soil, especially so with roses. Here is how to use a banana peel to fertilizer your soil for your plants. Remove the peel from the banana. Place the banana peel on a cookie sheet to let it air dry. Grab a paper bag or envelope. Crumble the dried banana peel and place it in the bag. Let the banana sit at room temperature for about two days. When your caring for your plant, give it a potassium treat of crumbled banana peel. Mix well in the soil to ensure the roots are fed evenly.
2. Have you been thinking about pulling out that old silver? Well there is no time like the present. Bananas peel can also be used to polish silver. Yes, polish silver. Take the old peels and place them in a blender. You want the peels to become smooth and creamy. Once they have, grab a cloth and small amounts of the creamed banana peel and begin polishing your silver. The shine will be breath taking.

SOURDOUGH STARTER with WILD YEAST

SOURDOUGH STARTER with WILD YEAST
Wild yeasts exist in the air around you and to some extent on the wheat berries. There are wild yeasts on grapes (unsulphured) and apples and other fruits. It is those wild yeasts which are 'captured' to make a sourdough starter. The process takes from 3 to 5 days. I wish I had specific amounts for you, but you could start with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of flour and mix in enough warm (not hot) water to make a thin paste. DO NOT make it too soupy. That, in fact, is the trick to a good starter, according to the French bread makers, and I think they should know. And after you've fooled around with the flour and water thing, you might wish to branch out into adding those unsulphured grapes, apples, sour milk, etc as a catalyst in order to capture other strains of yeast. Each of these strains has a slightly different taste. In fact if you move to another area, you might end up with a starter that produces an entirely different flavor. For instance, San Francisco sourdough bread is well known and has a distinct taste due to the wild strains in the air there. On day one you mix the flour and water (and add any catalysts to encourage fermentation) and place in a warm spot. After 3 days, the dough should be moist, inflated, and slightly sour. More flour and water is added (mixed in) and left to sit in a warm spot. After 2 days the process is repeated. Then the next day it is done again. Note the order: 3 days, 2 days, 1 day. At this point you should be able to make a loaf of bread using part of the starter and adding back what you took out in the form of more flour and water. Rule of thumb: Use about 10% starter to size of loaf. In the case of a 2 lb loaf this is a bit over 3 oz of starter (3.2 to be exact). For a 1 lb loaf 1.5 oz would be used. A book that describes this process in great detail is The Village Baker by Joe Ortiz, copyright 1993, published by Ten Speed Press, Berkley CA. If it's not still in print, try the used books stores, that's where I got mine. Or try your local library. If they don't have it, they might be able to get it for you. ©2008 by Ernestina Parziale
